Preparing for Convention: 5 Things to Bring

Preparing for Convention: 5 Things to Bring

Convention is coming up, this Saturday at Cottonwood High School! Registration will open at 8 am, and there will be caucus meet and greets and optional trainings until 10, when the convention will officially be gaveled in!

It’s been a few years since we held an in-person convention, and it may end up being a long day, so here is a list of 5 things you should bring with you on convention day!

1. Snacks

While there will be a food truck at Cottonwood HS, and there are likely to be lots of candidates giving out snacks/treats, it’s a good idea to bring your own to keep you going throughout the day. We want everyone to stay energized and fed, so make sure you plan ahead for what you think you’ll need.

2. Comfortable shoes

Obviously, there won’t be a ton of walking going on at convention, and the auditorium has ample seating for everyone, but it will still be an hours-long event, and you want to make sure that you can be as comfortable as possible through it! So, bring shoes that you know you’ll be comfortable in for the whole day.

3. Phone charger/power bank

There’s nothing worse than having your phone battery die and not having a charger around. So make sure you come prepared with a phone charger and/or a small power bank, so that you can keep it charged through the day. It’s especially important because voting will primarily be happening electronically (although we will have a paper ballot option as a backup).

4. Notebook and pen/pencil

While this isn’t a necessity, you may find it useful! Listening to candidates speak can be a lot of information at once, especially when you ultimately have to choose between candidates. Having a notebook and writing utensil on hand can be helpful in allowing you to jot down your thoughts, feelings, and observations about each candidate so that you can make an informed vote.

5. Anything else you think you might need to make the day comfortable and successful

Use your judgement! You know yourself best, so bring along anything (within reason) that you’ll need to get through the convention. Whether that’s a Diet Coke, ibuprofen, or something else, think ahead and make sure you come prepared!

We can wait for Saturday! See you then.
