Candidate for State School Board – District 6

My name is Carol Lear. I am a parent, grandparent, educator and public education attorney. After graduating from the University of Utah with an English teaching degree, I started teaching at Kearns High School. Five years later, I started law school at the University of Utah College of Law. After law school, I worked for a non-profit teacher training/civics program, Law-related Education. In 1987, I started working at the Utah State Office of Education. While at the USBE, I was responsible for administrative rule writing, tracking education legislation and the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission. I was also an adjunct professor at Utah State, teaching school law to aspiring educators.

I retired from the USBE in 2014 and started a private law practice. I continue to practice law representing school districts, charter schools and parents.

My husband, Jon and I have 3 grown children and eight rambunctious grandchildren who attend schools in SLC and Seattle, WA. We love the ocean, soccer, reading and vehemently discussing politics.
