Virtual Participation

Virtual Participation

We are so excited to be back in person for our 2022 convention this year! However, we recognize that coming in person is not feasible or realistic for everyone, whether because of COVID, travel barriers, or any other reason. We want to make sure Utahn has a chance to be active in the democratic process. That’s why we have decided to have an option for delegates to participate virtually.

Here’s how it’ll work:

On the morning of convention (4/23), all delegates will receive an email from the party. Within this email will be a form which you will need to fill out only if you are planning to participate remotely, or if you will arrive to convention later than 10 am.

Only those who are already on the delegate list can fill out this form for participation. Please do not share it.

Once you’ve filled out that form, you will receive another email with a link to a live Zoom webinar broadcast of the convention proceedings, which will begin at 10 am. You likely will not receive this email immediately, so please be patient.

You will need to stay on zoom for the entirety of the meeting so we can ensure a quorum is present.

As a virtually participating delegate, you will not be able to speak or make motions on the floor. You will also not be able to vote on motions which are brought from the floor, unless they pertain specifically to the nomination of a candidate or convention rules.

The first chance you’ll have to vote will likely be around 10:20 or 10:30 when we vote on the convention rules. You, along with all of the delegates attending convention in person, will receive an email and/or a text message with a secure, unique link to ElectionBuddy, which is our online balloting service.

This is a secure service that allows for instantaneous tallying of vote totals. You will be using ElectionBuddy over the course of the day to vote on motions, races for party office, and races for elected office. Votes for motions will be open for a minimum of five minutes, while votes for candidates will be open for one hour.

If you have any other questions about participating virtually, please contact mail@utdem.org

As a reminder, this is subject to change as needed. Please make sure to check your email for updates from the party.
